Candida Yeast Infection : EPD is it for you ?
There is a common method for treating candida yeast infections, it’s called Enzyme Potentiated Desensitization (EPD for short) and it can be an effective treatment. However what you need to remember is that EPD is NOT a permanent cure and will not stop yeast infections recurring.
EPD is sometimes also known as immunotherapy, it involves the patients avoiding all foods that contain yeast and sugars. The patient is also given an allergenic substance which should enhance the immune system and thus reduce any responses to allergies.
This treatment has been around since the 1960′s and along the way variations have been developed. The newest variation is called Low Dose Allergens (LDA for short).
If undergoing LDA treatment, the patient will be injected with an allergenic substance upto 3 times within each 2 month period. Depending on how the patient responds, these injections can safely be continued for upto 2 years.
Before the first injection, the patient will also take Sporanox (which is an anti fungal agent) and De-Nol (which is an anti gastric ulcer agent), these should help reduce the ability of the candida to root in the mucus in the intestine.
3 Days before the first injection the patient should stop eating all food allergens, and will be given zinc, folic acid and vitamin D3.
EPD is effective to varying degrees amongst patients. The improvement in some patients can be quite dramatic, but can wear off over time. If you have significant problems in your gut, bacterial problems or suffer from systemic candida, then EPD probably will not work at all.
